Diploma in Naval Architecture is a job oriented course with most of the openings available in the ships and offshore vessels building establishments. Job of the naval architects is to design and build more efficient and lighter vessels. Naval architecture concerns all marine vessels like ships, boats, ferries, tankers, submarines, hovercrafts and even offshore oil platforms. Military vessels too fall in the purview of naval architecture. India is blessed with a long coastline. This gives our country the advantage of importing and exporting of goods through ships. As such the opportunities in this field are enormous as more and more marine vessels, both military and commercial, are getting built up in the country’s shipyards.
Naval architects play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, efficient and seaworthy design of ships and vessels. For this they need to have an understanding of other branches of engineering too. They should be able to handle the latest available technology, like computer aided design.
Most of the jobs in this field are available in shipyards and with ship builders or wherever marine vessels and offshore structures are designed, constructed or repaired. This course will also get you jobs in ship design offices, consultancies, regulatory bodies concerned with shipping, merchant navies and marine equipment manufacturers. Opportunists also exist in Indian Navy as well as other government organizations involved in shipping and ship building. Naval architects are also involved in education, training, research and development. They are involved in marketing and sales too.
